New Tech opens at new site

May 4, 2011

After four years at two different sites, Warren New Tech High School opened Monday in its new building, located on Highway 158 bypass near the Warren County High School/Warren County Middle School campus.

Already, it feels like home to students and staff.

“I think we’re home,” Principal Iris Castellon-Dethmers said. “… Our kids are happy to be home.”

New Tech opened in 2007 on the Warren County Campus of Vance-Granville Community College in Warrenton, but moved to the Hawkins campus, also in Warrenton, the following year to make room for Warren Early College High School at the local community college site.

With an increasing enrollment as New Tech added a grade each year, the school outgrew the Hawkins campus and needed a modular building to alleviate space constraints.
