On Friday, May 26 at 12:45 p.m., First State Military Academy in Clayton will hold the grand opening of the academy’s new, state-of-the-art Marine Corps obstacle course.
This course is unique and the first of its kind in the Delmarva region to be built on a high school campus. The construction cost, over $27,000, was raised through a 30-day crowd-funding effort which included 160 individual and local business donors.
The course features 27 separate obstacles spread over four lanes, each 200 feet in length, including a 20-foot high rope climb.
Col Bob Wallace, the school’s Senior Marine Instructor, said, “This ‘O Course’ will be an important part of the school’s MC JROTC leadership and character development program. It will test our cadets’ physical agility, stamina, and courage to an entirely new level.”
C. Scott Kidner, FSMA Board Chair, said, “From the start of this mission, we have strived to create a school that is unique, challenging, but also fun. The addition of our obstacle course on our campus will bring all these elements together in one place.”
Wallace and Kidner said the cadets and staff of First State Military Academy extend their deepest appreciation to the volunteers and donors for their generous contributions.
