Implementing a Portrait of a Graduate

For over 25 years, New Tech Network has partnered with organizations nationwide to implement ‘Portrait of a Graduate’ frameworks, preparing students for a future shaped by possibility. Spanning various contexts, we collaborate with communities to transform existing schools, launch small schools, design district policies, and build long-term capacity through regional train-the-trainer models. Our approach centers on sustainable change and holistic support that uplifts educator strengths and simplifies systems. We meet each partner where they are to reclaim joyful teaching and learning, ensuring success is a shared journey toward our ultimate goal: Empowered Educators and Engaged Schools.

The New Tech Network provides a comprehensive framework to implement a Portrait of a Graduate by translating its vision into daily practice. This is achieved by aligning policies and community goals for College & Career Readiness, cultivating a Supportive Culture for staff and students, and embedding the Portrait’s attributes into daily activities through Learner-Centered Instruction & Assessment.

The New Tech Network Learning Outcomes provide clear, specific definitions for attributes like Agency, Collaboration, and Oral Communication. These outcomes give both teachers and students a shared vocabulary for what these skills look like in action. The NTN Learning Outcomes Rubrics, co-designed with the Stanford Center for Assessment and Learning Equity (SCALE), are pivotal for translating the language of a Portrait of a Graduate into actionable practice. Together, they transform vague goals into concrete instructional practices, creating clear scaffolding for student growth.
