The Goal
Deeper Learning:
For nine years, Lobo School of Innovation (LSI) has implemented Project-Based Learning (PBL) aligned with their district’s Profile of a Learner. Interdisciplinary projects guide Learner-Centered Instruction across all subject areas.
Community Partnerships:
LSI partners with History San Jose to host an annual public exhibition exploring the Driving Question: “How can we continue to commemorate the people, places, and events that have made a significant impact on the prosperity of San Jose, California, over the last 75 years?”
Student-Centered:
Each year, LSI teachers co-create a team charter to ground their work in shared values, expectations, and commitments to students. This charter is revisited throughout the year to ensure practice remains reflective, collaborative, and responsive to evolving needs of our learners and teacher peers.
The Work
Authentic Learning Experiences
Teachers design PBL experiences with students at the center, using team feedback protocols to keep projects relevant and connected to real-world issues. Students partner with teachers to co-create and interpret rubrics, ensuring expectations are clear and shared by all.
Teacher Collaboration and Adult Learning:
The NTN School Success Rubric supports LSI’s efforts to create a meaningful, equitable, and inclusive learning environment. It serves as a tool for reflection and growth.
Cross-School Learning:
LSI partners with Bulldog Tech, an NTN school, to share reflections and co-design rigorous performance tasks that advance deeper learning across campuses.

Lobo School of Innovation Says:
“Interviewing the Gurdwara community changed my perspective. I learned that serving others isn’t just an idea—it’s a daily practice that builds stronger neighborhoods.”
Ayaan, Class of 2024
“LSI is a great program that encourages students to be creative, work collaboratively, & problem solve when working on assignments. These are real life skills that help our kids as they transition into high school and college. Our oldest is now a freshman attending CSU Monterey Bay and we are happy to say that he has been able to navigate his first year of college because of the skills he practiced in LSI. Our family recommends LSI to families. The staff is attentive and engaging. The program encourages learning and real world skills.”
