Dan Deguara (@DanDeguara) is the Assistant Superintendent of Evergreen School District in San Jose, California. Examining how high-quality professional learning communities can create structures that encourage deeper learning for all learners in the system, students and adults, has been a focus of his work. Building on the six pillars of Deeper Learning, Evergreen School District’s learning teams, are working to define 21st-century learning in the context of communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity.
Dan’s entire professional career has taken place within Evergreen School District. After teaching for several years within the District, Dan pursued his Masters in Educational Administration at Santa Clara University and sought opportunities for site and district leadership. This long-standing commitment to the students, families, staff, and community of the District has provided him the foundation to encourage change and innovation within the system while ensuring and advocating for equitable learning.
Dan takes a learning stance acknowledging that we collectively have the answers that will make our system for teaching and learning most effective and bring us one step closer to as Jonathan A. Supovitz describes as a ‘learning for teaching’ organization.
