Winton Woods launches new academy

January 6, 2011

The Winton Woods Board of Education has voted to establish the Academy of Global Studies at Winton Woods High School beginning with the 2011-2012 school year.

The academy will open with ninth grade only within the framework of the Asia Society’s International Studies School Network and will serve 100 to 120 students. The New Tech Network also will support the program, depending on external funding.

The school board plans to add an additional grade to the program each year so that by the 2014-2015 school year, the program will be at capacity serving between 400 and 480 students in grades nine through 12, according to a news release.

“The Academy of Global Studies will provide unique opportunities for our high school students while serving as an additional source of revenue and community pride,” Winton Woods Superintendent Camille Nasbe said in the release.
