Watch Inside KELOLAND: New Technology High School The Sioux Falls School District is getting ready to open a new high school.

January 1, 2009

Sioux Falls New Technology High School, opening August, 2010, offers an exciting educational opportunity for 115 incoming 9th grade students. This project based learning school teaches exploration and inquiry while students engage in smaller learning communities to master all South Dakota graduation requirements.

Teams of students will work in a 1:1 computer environment, researching, communicating and solving real problems in our community. Project based learning brings relevance to learning, and the collaborative approach to education prepare students to succeed at college, work and in a global society.

Sioux Falls New Technology High School will use an innovative curriculum to engage students as they develop presentations to demonstrate their knowledge and skills. Grades are determined on factors such as work ethic, collaboration, communication, critical thinking and content knowledge. Students participate in internships and post-secondary coursework during their junior and senior years.

Incoming 9th grade students who are interested in attending Sioux Falls New Technology High School will be chosen by lottery.

Sioux Falls New Technology High School will serve as a model – in the community, the state and beyond – of innovative public education that is based in strong partnerships and focuses on educating and inspiring students to develop 21st Century Skills.

Sioux Falls New Technology High School will empower students to reach new levels of performance and involvement in their school work. Traditional high school courses such as English and Speech, World Languages and Global Issues, Algebra and Physical Science are combined as students research and problem solve issues that impact our city, state or nation.

Trust, respect and responsibility are hallmarks of the New Technology learning environment. Students and teachers alike take ownership of learning at this project based high school.
