lowrypntLowry Solutions, a leading Global Systems Integrator of Automatic Identification and Data Capture (AIDC) and Internet of Things (IoT) solutions that improve productivity through real-time asset visibility, had 23 students from nearby Pinckney New Tech High School complete internships as part of a breakthrough partnership with the school to increase community involvement and prepare the next generation’s workforce. This is a record number of interns to work with Lowry and complete the internship program since the partnership began in 2012.

Pinckney New Tech students are required to complete a 40-hour unpaid internship to graduate with the New Tech seal on their diploma. Since 2012, a total of 79 students have completed internships with Lowry Solutions.

As part of the partnership, Lowry’s Human Resources department assists the students with building resumes and developing interview skills, and experts across the company deliver presentations to help students explore their career options.

Students can get internships in accounting, marketing, operations, and IT. Those in IT receive special cybersecurity training as part of Lowry’s support of the Regional Alliances and Multistakeholder Partnership to Stimulate (RAMPS) Cybersecurity Education and Workforce Development in collaboration with Pinckney Community Schools. Lowry provides employer input on the development of a cybersecurity pathway that will allow employers to address market demands for cybersecurity talent.

Once the interns complete their time at Lowry Solutions, the company hosts a banquet to celebrate the work they accomplished. This year’s banquet was held on Oct. 26 at Ciao Amici’s in downtown Brighton.

“I was delighted when Pinckney approached me about partnering for an internship program. But I had no desire to see kids stuffing envelopes or following people around. We wanted to be sure they were getting real-world experience by working on projects Lowry could put into productive use,” said Michael Lowry, president and CEO of Lowry Solutions.

“Our partnership with Pinckney New Tech is far more than we imagined when it started. The students are bright and energetic, and our organization can learn just as much from them as they learn from us. Livingston County has some of the best and brightest right here in our community, and we should all be proud.”
