From PBL Oldie—to New Tech Newbie: One Woman’s Journey

July 24, 2013

As I embarked upon my immersion in the New Tech Network, I felt a sense of newness laced with an overwhelming sense of familiarity. Over the past 8 years, I have moved from a novice to expert for PBL and have experienced the success with my students as they have grown and learned…but at times the journey seemed isolated. Coming from a school within a school Model for a STEM academy was rewarding but also difficult and frankly lonely.

Now as a I look around NTAC 2013 I am experiencing that forever-longed for “aha” moment. The NETWORK is the missing piece of the puzzle. Merriam-Webster defines network as “an interconnected or interrelated chain, group, or system”. To see this definition is one thing but to exist in the midst of this definition is something far greater. Facilitators, leaders, students, and communities that are obsessed and driven by one single desire and creating a system that will foster that desire. To create an age of thinkers, dreamers, learners, and innovators for future generations.

Can you really imagine the palpable electricity in the air when these people come together? I experienced it on Monday as we sat in the opening session and talked about telling the STORY of the Network. I had found the place I was meant to be and the destination I had been moving towards. I am excited, empowered, and fully engaged for my story to continue within the Network and beyond. Stay Tuned…. Bridget Goree A. Maceo Smith New Tech Network
