Mayor Paul TenHaken Surprises New Tech Students

Sioux Falls students headed back to school today and reunited with some of their best friends and favorite teachers.

Students are New Tech High had a special classmate come to school with them, Sioux Falls Mayor Paul TenHaken surprised the students during their morning assembly.

TenHaken, the highest ranking community servant, spoke to the students on the importance of community service. The year started with an all school community service project geared towards building relationships within the school, as well as promoting a culture of volunteering.

“Community service is part of education and part of giving back to your community, I think that’s a really important thing and really important aspect and to see New Tech doing that and really kicking off their year with that message and that theme, I think is really valuable,” said Mayor TenHaken.

New Tech already places an emphasis on serving the community. Their students have to complete 40 hours of community service before they graduate.
