The Teaching Channel recently released a series of videos on Deeper Learning. I was so impressed by the passion and commitment of those on the screen before me. As the videos phased in, one teacher or student after another, what struck me was the work was grounded in teacher-student relationships. While the mechanism that EdVision school discussed for these relationships was Advisory, I have landed on an important realization: Deeper Learning cannot happen without these teacher-student relationships.
The power of personalization and knowing the children who sit before us is unmatched in school. Where do our children come from? What are their strengths? Their interests? What is their story? We cannot answer these questions without knowing our students well. The answers to these questions will act as the seed for deeper learning. For example…
