Getting Clear on Blended Learning

March 11, 2014

Paul CurtisWith so many educators, organizations and companies throwing around the term “blended learning”, it’s clear that there are many different interpretations of what blended learning is.  After struggling to decode the definitions that were published by blended learning advocates and at the risk of adding to the confusion, I decided I needed simple framework to describe all the variations.  Below are three graphics that I created in an attempt to define what blended learning is, describe the different forms it takes, and categorize the digital tools used to create and support it.  Each of the three represent a spectrum on which blended learning approaches could be placed.  Hopefully others find them useful as well.
