Gov. Mitch Daniels visited the Columbus Signature Academy – New Tech Campus Wednesday afternoon. A pair of students at the facility led the tour, which was joined by BCSC Superintendent Dr. John Quick, State Representative Milo Smith and New Tech Campus Principal Mike Reed.
Gov. Daniels spoke with students and faculty during his tour of the 46,000 square foot facility. A common inquiry that the Governor made to students was their reasons for choosing New Tech over a traditional high school like Columbus North or Columbus East. Students indicated the desire for a more challenging atmosphere, as well as the attractiveness of project-based learning of real-world challenges. Other students praised the smaller class sizes, an emphasis on responsibility and accountability, as well as more technology-based learning. Daniels noted that these responses were typical of students he’s met at other New Tech campuses.
