#75 Days of Data 10. Schools can highlight the strength of a community

September 8, 2015

The impact of our school extends beyond our gates. The idea for Community Clean Up Days came naturally. At one of our weekly parent meetings, one dad shared how he wanted our children to be the solution to a growing litter problem in the neighborhood. The idea caught on quickly and the whole empowered group of parents jumped in and started organizing.
We now do Clean Up Days at least three to four times per year. The goal each time is to clean the neighborhood from our school to your doorstep. A community is defined by its people and our school strives to keep this community connected. Keeping the neighborhood clean is just one small way we do that.

Katherine Smith School is a public, neighborhood New Tech elementary school in the Evergreen School District in San Jose, CA.
